Writer's Block is really defined as fear, doubt, worry, and condemnation talking to you. They tell you things like "That was your last good song", "You can't top that Track", "Your not good at writing or making beats", "Why even try today, you know I'm going to talk your head off..."
Yes, it sounds crazy but we all go through this. Here are some easy solutions:
-Its like going to the gym, the first 15 minutes is painful and then finally the thoughts just go away. Resist long enough and joy and inspiration will follow.
-Don't believe anything discouraging! If you need to work at something to get better, so what. We all need to work on something. It doesn't mean be discouraged, just persevere and you'll get a breakthrough.
-Do things that inspire you or give you joy before writing. Write when you are at peace or motivated.
-Take a break, nap, walk, exercise. Joy and encouragement is the source of all creativity.
-Make songwriting assignments – get a line from a movie, newspaper article, headline, or a billboard and write about it.
-Think about the video for the song and write about it.
-See the stage and how it would feel to perform the song
-Go back to keeping it simple and singable. The best melodies are simple, easy to remember, and easy to sing along with whether they are lyric melodies or instruments.
Always remember you have a choice to believe what is in your head and what others say or prove it wrong by what you do.
Please share additional tips, inspirations and experiences that have helped you get through.
